Instagram post 2140787931082449994_3576229609 I am READY for fall. I have been waiting anxiously for that slip of coolness in the air & I can feel it hovering. The colors in this make me even more eager for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This past month has been eye-opening. Answers that eluded me became very clear. I pulled out a sheet of paper and wrote down all the paintings I've done that had my soul in it. Out of the hundred & somethings pieces, I came up with 10. It hurt to realize that so little of what I've produced had ME in it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A lot of what I've created has been what I've observed or what I've been commissioned to paint. It's easier to pull from the outside world. It's much harder to pull something up from deep inside you. I have so much admiration for those brave artists that can constantly put THEMSELVES on canvas in a way that allows strangers to share their experience.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So. I am making a promise to myself that I will pull a lot more up from deep down. To put the stamp of my soul on everything that I possibly can. While it scares the crap out of me, it's needed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to create stories. This one's called "Hardheaded & Blind." Instagram post 2113956392541619357_3576229609 One of my new favorite spots is our front porch. We got some nice charred wood rockers awhile back (assembly was a bitch but worth it). We'll sit out there on nice days and watch the birds nesting in the crepe myrtle not too far away while we read. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Occasionally, we'll see a friendly rat snake (which my husband always names) or a big fat grasshopper. On this particular day, it was the very rare tree frog.
